# Installation

Install BEAM on Windows or macOS

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Windows" %}
One installer adds BEAM to Rhino 6, 7 and 8, Revit 2018 to 2027, Grasshopper and Dynamo.

1. Download the latest installer from [mksdtech.com/downloads](https://www.mksdtech.com/downloads).
2. Close every Rhino and Revit session.
3. Run `mksbeam.exe` and follow the steps. You need administrator rights.
4. Start Rhino or Revit and log in with your BEAM account. See [Licensing Scheme](/license/licencing.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
You can also right-click the installer, choose **Properties**, tick **Unblock** and click **OK** before running it.
{% endhint %}

BEAM installs to `C:\ProgramData\Beam`. For silent installs across many machines, see [Deployment](/license/deployment.md).
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="macOS" %}
BEAM for Rhino 8 for Mac is available from the Rhino Package Manager.

1. In Rhino, run the `PackageManager` command.
2. Search for **MKSBEAM**.
3. Click **Install** and restart Rhino.
4. Log in with your BEAM account. See [Licensing Scheme](/license/licencing.md).

On macOS, BEAM includes the Rhino panel, IFC import and export, and the BEAM, BLOCS and RAY tools. Schedules, Select by Guid and Transfer are Windows only. See [Getting Started](/beam/beam-for-rhinoceros/using-rhino-beam.md#the-panel).
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Close every Rhino and Revit session before you install or update BEAM.
{% endhint %}

## RAY requirements

[RAY](/beam/beam-for-revit/ray.md) and the **RHINO** button run Rhino inside Revit, so Rhino must be installed on the same machine.

| Revit          | Rhino                                      |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------------ |
| 2019 – 2024    | Rhino 7 or 8                               |
| 2025 and later | Rhino 8, version 8.32 or later recommended |

## Updates

When a new version is available, BEAM tells you once per session and offers to open the [changelog](/changelog.md). Install the new version over the old one. There is no need to uninstall first.

## Uninstall

On Windows, uninstall **MKS BEAM** from **Settings** > **Apps**. This also removes the default [.beam directory](/beam/beam-for-rhinoceros/beam-directory.md) in `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Beam`.

On macOS, uninstall **MKSBEAM** in the Rhino Package Manager.
