System Families

System families are imported as DirectShape elements in Revit. They cannot be edited or found in the Family Browser, but they can still be scheduled and have parameters assigned.

Importing as system families

Some categories can only be imported as system families.

Using the Import as System Families option will force all families in the .beam to be imported this way, regardless of their category.

System families do not update automatically. To reimport, you must first delete the previously imported elements manually.

The Force Update option will delete all system families of the same type in the document before importing. Use this carefully.

Splitting system families

Geometry can be imported individually by using the Split Geometry option. Even when split, the objects will still carry the parameters and the name of the family.
