Troubleshooting
Common messages and how to fix them
Find the message you see, then follow the fix. If the problem stays, email info@mksdtech.com with the message, your BEAM version and your Rhino or Revit version.
Licensing
Please register and login to use BEAM.
You are not logged in. Open the license dialog and log in with your BEAM account. See Licensing Scheme.
Check your internet connection or if your firewall is blocking api.mksdtech.com
BEAM needs to reach api.mksdtech.com over HTTPS to check your licence. Check your connection. On a company network, ask IT to allow api.mksdtech.com. See Deployment.
All BEAM PRO licenses are in use.
Every device slot of your team's licences is taken for today. Slots are released at the end of the day. Ask your account owner for more licences at mksdtech.com. See Licensing Scheme.
You have exceeded the BEAM LITE limits.
You are using BEAM LITE, which limits the size of each import and export. Get a BEAM PRO licence for unlimited use, or ask your team owner to invite you. See Licensing Scheme.
Files
Cannot read this BEAM file. It was created with an older version of BEAM that is no longer compatible.
Export the .beam again from Rhino with the same BEAM version you use in Revit. Keep Rhino and Revit on the same BEAM version.
Revit Family Templates not found.
The family templates are missing from C:\ProgramData\Beam\Templates. Run the BEAM installer again.
Document units not supported
IFC export needs metres, centimetres, millimetres, feet or inches. Change the units in Rhino's Document Properties > Units.
Some objects were not exported or imported
BEAM lists the failed objects with the reason. Click Copy To Clipboard, then use Select by Guid in Rhino to find them. Common causes:
Invalid or non-manifold geometry. Run Rhino's
Checkcommand.Names with invalid characters:
\ : { } [ ] | ; < > ? ` ~ " /.Scaled or skewed blocks. See BLOCS.
A parameter stays empty in Revit
The Revit parameter must exist before import, and the value must match its type. See Parameters in Revit.
RAY and Rhino inside Revit
Rhino Inside Revit install was detected.
Rhino.Inside.Revit and BEAM both load Rhino into Revit, and only one can do it per session. Launch Rhino from Rhino.Inside.Revit first, then run RAY.
The file 'opennurbs_private.manifest' required to run Rhino inside Revit was not found
An Autodesk or Revit update can remove this file. Run the BEAM installer again to restore it.
Some required BEAM components are missing or incomplete.
This can happen after a Revit update or a new Revit install. Run the BEAM installer again.
Rhino is installed. A newer Rhino is recommended to run inside this version of Revit.
Update Rhino. Revit 2025 and later work best with Rhino 8.32 or later. See RAY requirements.
