# Classification

Classification file for Uniclass codes

The **Classification** tab links a Uniclass table to the document. BEAM uses it to list codes in the Uniclass dialog, and to describe the classification in IFC.

## Name and edition in IFC

BEAM reads the classification name and edition from the file name.

| File name | Name | Edition |
| ---------------------------- | --------------- | ------- |
| `Uniclass2015_Pr_v1_40.xlsx` | `Uniclass 2015` | `2015` |

The source is written as `NBS`. Without a file, BEAM writes `Uniclass 2015`.

To assign codes to families, see [Classifications](/beam/beam-for-rhinoceros/classifications.md).
