Classifications

Assign Uniclass codes to families

You can give each family a Uniclass code. BEAM writes it to IFC as a classification reference, and shows it in schedules.

Load a Uniclass file

BEAM reads the classification tables published by NBS. Download the table you need, such as Products (Pr) or Elements/functions (EF), as .xlsx or .csv.

  1. Click the gear (Ifc Settings) on the panel.

  2. Open the Classification tab.

  3. Click … and pick the file.

See Classification settings for the name and edition written to IFC.

Assign a code

  1. Select an object in the family.

  2. On the panel, open the Type tab under Family Parameters.

  3. Click … next to Uniclass.

  4. Search for a code or title, or browse the tree.

  5. Select an entry and click OK.

Uniclass dialog

The field shows the code and title, for example EF_25_10 — Walls.

To switch to another table, click … (Change Uniclass file) at the top of the Uniclass dialog.

In IFC

On export, each code becomes an IfcClassificationReference linked to the family's elements. On import, BEAM reads classification references back into the Uniclass field.
