# .beam Directory

![](/files/-MSTWUZ3tyYp4bqw4oAl)

BEAM uses a cache file ( .beam ) based system to store and communicate data between the software.

While using BEAM in Rhino and Revit you can **set**, **reset** and **open** the .beam directory.

By default, the *.beam* directory is located at:

```
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Beam\Temp
```

{% hint style="success" %}
To collaborate with others, set up a directory on a **shared network drive**. When all team members point BEAM to the same path, the *.beam* files can be shared across the team.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
The **local Temp folder** holds up to 50 *.beam* files. Any **custom directory** has no limit.

Remember to perform **periodic cleanups** of custom *.beam* directories to save disk space.
{% endhint %}
